Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a famed archaeological attraction listed as UNESCO Heritage site. The former king Kasyapa’s palace, after his death it was used as a monastery until the 14th century.

The best time to visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress is early morning as it gets hot during the daytime so do not forget to take a bottle of water with you to keep yourself hydrated. It takes about 40 minutes to climb up and the stairway to climb up is a good one and there are about 1200 steps to take.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a magnificent place to explore Sri Lanka’s ancient architecture. You can take a guide with you to get all the historical information if you would like.

Usually, it is crowded during weekends and it’s better to visit during weekdays. Be aware of the bees and monkeys and follow the instructions to protect yourself while you have a good time enjoying.
